More than 800 women packed the Living Word Bible Church for the 2011 Extraordinary Women’s Conference, from April 7 through 9.
Themed Moving On Up, the weekend featured a concert by Christian pop artist Beckah Shae, as well as boutiques and workshops. Among the speakers was church co-pastor Dr. Maureen Anderson. Also part of the event was a Dancing-with-the-Stars-style contest.
The kick-off event Friday night was a high-energy fashion show spotlighting church members and friends modeling current fashions from Chicos, Drapers and Damons, Dress Barn and Rue21.
“All of it was coordinated by volunteers,” said Gayle Schuch, church guest speaker coordinator. These volunteers included Sandra Barbetta, co-owner of Cosmos Salon and Day Spa; her daughter, Terese; and other Cosmos team stylists, who spent hours before the event creating high-fashion hairdos and makeup for all the models.
Giving back to the community is a high priority for Sandra and her husband, Cosmo, together with their staff at Cosmos Salon and Day Spa. “We always want to do whatever we can to help women,” she said, “and this event promoted a positive message.”
