For the past 23 years, Campbell’s Dance Studio has presented The Nutcracker ballet every holiday season for the enjoyment of the community.
Not only does this production provide a stage for many talented local classical ballet students, but it also has created an exciting and nostalgic tradition for many who attend year after year.
This year, the role of Drosselmeyer, played for 14 years by Mark Kleinman, has been taken over by his son, Ryan Kleinman. Currently a student at the University of Arizona (U of A), Tucson, Ryan has grown up dancing in many roles in past performances of The Nutcracker.
Lauryn Baehr, a student at Stapley Junior High School, will perform the role of Clara. Zac Birdwell, now on a full scholarship in the dance program at the U of A, will return to play the part of The Nutcracker. Zac’s younger brother, Winston Birdwell, will be playing the role of Fritz, Clara’s younger, tormenting brother. Lisette Larson, a student at Mountain View High School, portrays the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The Nutcracker will be performed on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at Mountain View High School, 2700 E. Brown Road. Tickets are available now at Campbell’s Dance Studio, 2820 E. University Drive, Suite 106.
