While Sonson’s Pasty Co., which recently celebrated its second year in business, is known for its assortment of English pastys, it is also finding success offering newly introduced, traditional English menu items that are perfect for families.
Sonson’s Wednesday night family deal — which includes a cottage pie, gravy, salad, drinks and cake to feed a family four — is just $35.
“It’s a traditional English pie made with ground beef, cheese, carrots, gravy, mashed potatoes and cheese on top,” said owner Julie Mercer. “It’s a really good meal in one and a popular English dish.”
Customers are encouraged to place their order at least one day in advance to ensure availability and, when ready, pick it up at the restaurant hot and ready to go.
Sonson’s Pasty Co. is also offering a larger assortment of desserts including the seasonal pumpkin roll and pumpkin turnover as well as carrot cake and peach cobbler — to name a few. Customers are also able to call ahead to order family-sized options of the cakes.
The eatery’s traditional pastys continue to be extremely popular, with easy frozen, take and bake, and ready-to-eat options.
“The steak, ground beef, steak and cheese, and green chile chicken are our top sellers,” said Julie. “The steak and ground beef are always our top because they’re the traditional, but people enjoy all of them. We get a variety of folks in that enjoy the pastys.”
Sonson’s Pasty Co. is continuing to offer curbside pick-up and has also reopened its dining room at 50 percent capacity, allowing six guests to dine in the restaurant at a time. With cooler weather, the restaurant’s patio will be opening soon to allow for more seating.
To provide the best experience possible, Julie welcomes all guests to call ahead to ensure seating is available, and to order their pasty ahead of time so it’s available and ready to go.
Guests can also tune into Sonson’s Pasty Co.’s social media for flash sales on menu items and restaurant updates. Through the Mesa CARES program, the restaurant has had the opportunity to grow marketing efforts as well as increase its safety precautions.
“We had some great funding from Mesa CARES that’s helping a lot. It’s helping us with advertising and PPE so we can stay safe during COVID,” shared Julie, who encourages all businesses to look into the small business reemergence program.
