The Red Mountain Ranch Social Club members kicked off the fall season by kicking up their heels to the music of the big bands of the 1940s.
The group hosted a cocktail party with dinner and dancing on Oct. 24. The marvelous evening was held in the Overlook Ballroom at the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club.
To match the Big Band Era theme for the party, the attendees dressed in evening attire reminiscent of the 1940s. A delicious dinner of fried chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans with bacon and peach cobbler was prepared by Sedale Jones, head chef at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club.
A committee led by Karla Lockwood, Allyn Bransby and Mic Bagby did phenomenal planning of every detail by researching the era to assure that as people entered the party, they felt transported into a fabulous 1940s nightclub. Using decor and thousands of tiny glimmering lights, they transformed the ballroom into a glamorous setting that represented this period in history.
A rousing trivia game with questions focused on the 1940s proved to be an exciting mixer for the group. Following the excellent dinner, attendees danced to the big band musical classics of Glen Miller, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.
On Nov. 14, the Social Club honored their members who are veterans. The speaker for the special program was Col. Bernard Kenan of the honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and honorable Aide De-Camp to the governor of the commonwealth of Kentucky.
Col. Kenan delivered a fascinating presentation regarding his personal journey from military life to civilian life, sharing his experiences and what actions he took to make his post military life rewarding and successful.
On Nov. 3, the Social Club hosted an information booth at Community Day ‘Octoberfest,’ which was developed and coordinated by the Advance Red Mountain Ranch team.
The Social Club members range in age from 30s to 90s, which gives an opportunity for people from seven different decades to enjoy each other’s company.
