In its continuing effort to offset the global increase of starving children, Love of Christ Lutheran Church (LOC), in East Mesa, will again be providing pre-packaged meals, on Nov. 5, 6 and 7, in support of the international care giving distributor Feed My Starving Children.
Now in its eighth year, LOC organizes volunteers from across the community for a November humanitarian weekend of preparing fortified meals for starving children. Called manna packs, the church has consistently been able to produce more than 100,000 meals in a weekend. Last year, LOC surpassed the 1.1 million mark in hand-packed meals created for Feed My Starving Children.
“It’s a pretty busy place here at our church when we start the process of packaging this food for these children,” said Walter Scott, church coordinator for the program. “We prepare packages of dried food containing dried vegetables, soy protein, rice and powdered dry formula vitamins. The event is a great opportunity for individuals, families and groups from the community. The energy of our volunteers is just amazing.”
Last year, Feed My Starving Children, through organizations like Love of Christ Lutheran Church, produced more than 229,000,000 meal packets distributed worldwide. In its eight-year history, the church has provided more than 4,600 volunteers donating in excess of 10,000 hours to feed starving children.
