The Red Mountain Ranch Social Club (RMRSC) members engaged in numerous activities to rejoice and make merry during the holiday season.
On Dec. 5, RMRSC members participated in a private guided tour of the Arizona Jewish Historical Society Museum in Phoenix. The exhibition, entitled We Remember: The Liberators, honored the men who liberated the prisoners held in the concentration camps during World War II.
The powerful and touching exhibit allowed the social club members to step back in time to better understand the horrific conditions the Liberators encountered when they entered the concentration camps. The exhibit focused on stories of individual liberators, how the experience affected their lives and led them to make important contributions to society after the war. Many of the Liberators highlighted in the exhibit had lived in Arizona.
The RMRSC Christmas dinner, held at Alessia’s Restaurant, was a joyous, merry, and boisterous party. The authentic Italian cuisine was delicious.
The attendees sang a lively rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas — rewritten to be Arizona specific using a snowbird in a Palo Verde tree, and references to javelinas, prickly pears, tacos, coyotes howling, etc. To cap off the evening, Dave Bender shared a music video that he created with pictures of members participating in the many events and activities sponsored by the RMRSC during 2019.
Contributing to the community is important to RMRSC members. One evening just prior to Christmas, a group of social club members met in the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club parking lot wearing their Christmas clothes, festive hats and some with antlers. After reviewing their song sheets, they carpooled, stopping at intervals to sing Christmas carols throughout the Red Mountain Ranch neighborhood.
The caroling group, in their Christmas outfits and carrying candles, brought holiday cheer to their neighbors. After a lot of smiles, laughs and hugs, the group ended the evening at Warren and Martha Stephens’ home for refreshments of snacks and beverages (adult and low octane).
