The Red Mountain Ranch Social Club kicked off their activities on May 1 with a fun and exciting Kentucky Derby Party hosted at Ferne Zabezensky’s home. Attendees feasted on elegant hors d’oeuvres prepared by Social Club members. Participants also found the mint juleps prepared by Warren Stephens to be very refreshing.
Dollars changed hands as members took chances on their favorite horses in the race. The crowd roared as the horses crossed the finish line. Four of the attendees chose the winner of the race and shared in the winnings.
The ladies were decked out in appropriate Derby wear including beautiful hats. The Derby hat contest was great fun with Martha Stephens winning the contest by sporting a black broad brimmed hat adorned with a rhinestone lizard which brought a touch of Arizona to her Derby hat creation.
The next RMRSC event will be an Ice Cream Social on June 10 which will be hosted at the home of Gregg and Robin Hagenstad. The menu includes BBQ hot dogs, ice cream, toppings, and adult beverages. Attendees will be able to make their own creative recipes for adult milkshakes, sodas, sundaes, and floats.
RMRSC members are also engaged in projects that contribute to the community. In April the members placed a new Book Exchange Box in the community. The Book Exchange Box is a free lending library for neighbors who live in Red Mountain Ranch. RMRSC President, Allyn Bransby, presided over a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, April 21. The ceremony was attended by neighbors who came together to celebrate and welcome the new Book Exchange Box by bringing book donations to prepare it for immediate use.
This is the fourth Book Exchange Box that the Social Club has contributed. The first is located on Redmont Road across from Dos Lagos. The second was placed at RMR Elementary School which is dedicated to elementary age-appropriate books. The third book box is positioned on Recker Road across from the entrance to Country Club Estates. The fourth book box is located on Viewmont Drive near Sonoran Estates.
Allyn Bransby coordinated placement of the Book Exchange Boxes with the Red Mountain Ranch Owners Association Board. RMRSC Club member, Ewin Trapp, professionally designed and constructed all four of the boxes, and member Pam Patterson painted and decorated each of them. The charming Book Exchange Boxes are an inviting and an important contribution to the Red Mountain Ranch Community that all neighbors can enjoy.
Over the past year — even during the Pandemic — the RMRSC members did an admirable job of supporting each other and the mission of their organization, which is “to promote the social and cultural growth of its members, to engage in educational outreach, to encourage mental and physical health, and to facilitate community involvement for the benefit of society.”
As the RMR Social Club resumes activities, the summer schedule will include the Ice Cream Social, dining out together, game nights, Book Club and the Ladies Birthday luncheons. In the fall, the monthly educational meetings, theatre events, concerts, museum trips, and parties will all be back on the schedule. Members may participate in as few or as many activities as they desire.
