So, I’m feeling old, well, older anyway.
Maybe it’s my milestone birthday looming this month, or the newest body aches, or maybe it’s the frustration I sometimes feel with my limited technology skills. I don’t always know how to make my computer do what I need.
My kids, however, grew up immersed in technology, and they have no fear. They just start clicking buttons and trying things. If it all goes bad, they just say, “Oh, well, let’s reboot this thing.” They hit the button and it restarts. Bingo, things are back in order.
Do you ever wish you could just reboot your life like you can reboot your computer? Has something gone wrong in your life you wish you could undo? Do you ever wish you could just start fresh, wash away mistakes, turn a new corner, and live your life in a new kind of way?
That’s what the season of Lent really is about. Lent provides us a time to contemplate our lives and turn from sinful ways. It is a time to remember the great sacrifice Christ made for us to wash us clean, to make us new and to give us a whole new beginning.
Join us on the Wednesdays of March for our special mid-week Lenten worship services at Hosanna Lutheran Church, at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. We will explore a sermon series called CTRL+ALT+DEL: Reboot Your Life. We will be reminded that God gives us a Do Over, a fresh start. We do not just get a new beginning, but new life itself.
Join us for Lent and the journey to Easter. The word Lent is the old Anglo-Saxon word for spring. It leads us to look toward the renewal of life the world will exhibit when this season of the church year is ended. New life also springs forth in us when we turn to God in repentance, trust His plan, and we let Him reboot our lives.
Ash Wednesday is on March 1. This special service includes the imposition of ashes, an ancient practice of the church reaching back even into the Old Testament when people placed ash on their heads as a sign of repentance. We impose the ashes in the sign of the cross to show we also are forgiven and made new by Christ, the crucified and risen One who won this new life for us all.
The Wednesdays that follow will continue our journey in new life as we hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and reboot our lives in Christ.
