Other than your home or vehicle, a swimming pool probably is one of the largest investments you make, and like your car, you want a professional to take care of it.
“Having a regularly scheduled pool service tech check and service your pool can prevent expensive problems from developing,” said Chris Quam, owner of Arizona Pool Guy, Inc. “Our pool techs are well trained in water chemistry and mechanical repairs for all aspects of pool maintenance.”
Some pool owners may prefer to care for their pools themselves, but if they walk outside and discover their pool has turned bright green, the pool cleaner has stopped working, or a horrifying screech is coming from their pump, they may need professional help.
If you already have a relationship with a professional pool company, you shouldn’t have such problems, but if something unexpected does happen, you can get help right away. You also can rely on your tech when you need repairs, remodeling or new equipment.
“Regular pool service is a must if you travel a lot or are a part-time resident. Having a trusted person check your pool area every week can relieve worries about storm damage, equipment failure, algae or other problems forming,” Chris said. “They also can suggest pool-saving devices, such as automatic water fill, a Smartphone app to monitor your pool from afar and other helpful technologies.”
So, what does pool service entail? Most residential pools need service once a week. Commercial pools and spas, like those in community centers, condos or mobile home parks, can require service as often as every day, depending on the size and usage of the pool.
“Most importantly, the chemicals are checked,” Chris explained. “Levels for parts per million of free chlorine and chlorine stabilizer, pH, and total alkalinity must be within range or adjusted to meet Arizona Department of Health standards.”
Next, debris is removed and the skimmer baskets cleaned out. “You would be surprised at what we find in there sometimes—dead birds, mice, rabbits, scorpions, lizards and assorted bugs,” Chris explained. Pool sides, steps and ledges are brushed regularly to remove film the cleaner may have missed. As needed, the sand and diatomaceous earth filters are backwashed and DE replenished, and salt system electrodes are cleaned.
The pool tech makes sure everything mechanical is working properly—the pool pump, pool cleaner, filter pressure correct and pump basket clear, pool heaters and coolers, water features and lighting. Pool techs use their own tools, and all basic chemicals are included.
Additional tasks can be done for an extra fee, including arranging pool furniture or hosing pool decks and furniture, as well as draining and refilling pools periodically, (every two to three years), replacing sand in filters, cartridge filters cleaned or replaced, as well as repairs or adding new equipment.
Arizona Pool Guy, Inc. services many of your neighbors’ homes and local commercial properties. Their votes awarded the company the 2014 Best of Mesa—Best Pool Company.
