This month, we have an Arizona destination wine lovers will adore. And it is not too far from home. The weather is ideal, the colors of fall are beginning to develop, and the wine trail from Mesa to Page Springs Cellars is about two hours away.
While Napa Valley, Calif. may be known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Arizona boasts excellent Rhone-style choices for your enjoyment. Plan a day to experience new tastes in a different corner of Arizona and create your favorite new hobby – wine tasting.
Even better, Page Springs Cellars is within proximity to Sedona’s September Wine Festival. Imagine the sites on your own Arizona traveling wine tour, winding through stops within our state that you may have otherwise overlooked.
Page Springs Cellars in Cornville, Ariz., was established in 2004 by Eric Glomski, and is recognized for its exceptional Rhone-style wines. Eric’s journey into winemaking began with an unexpected encounter with wild apples in the Prescott National Forest.
Since then, Page Springs Cellars has blossomed into a place where family and friends can share a unique experience. Page Springs Cellars captured a first-place award for its Syrah and Petite Sirah in a recent Arizona wine competition.
Best yet, this winery is situated alongside scenic Oak Creek in Arizona’s Verde Valley. Guests can relax, even picnic, in the peaceful environment of the creek while enjoying the natural beauty and tranquil surroundings. There are 15 to 20 varieties of wines to choose from, all of which are produced on 35 acres of high-desert terrain. Visiting guests can enjoy tours, tastings, and a variety of culinary options. The bistro menu evolves with the season, offering choices including flatbreads, salads, traditional French entrées, and more.
ARIZONA WINES YOU MUST TRY
Standout wines at Page Springs Cellars include the award-winning Syrah, known for its rich and bold flavors. The Petite Sirah, also award-winning, has deep dark fruit flavors with a robust background.
If you like a hint of spice, Grenache is an essential sample. This wine has bright red fruit flavors with that hint of spice for the finish. Viognier (pronounced vee-on-yay) is a white wine with floral aromas, perfect for a refreshing sip. And Roussanne is another white selection with more complex flavor and rich texture. These options reflect the high-desert characteristics of the Arizona landscape and highlight the craftsmanship at Page Springs Cellars.
Tastings and guided tours, for those who desire insights into the winemaking process, are also options to enhance your visit. Guests can enjoy a seasonal lunch or dinner menu, along with picnic food options to customize the experience.
