Mesa Community College (MCC) has been named one of the top online colleges in Arizona by Accredited Schools Online (ASO), a resource for students looking for online college and university programs.
MCC was ranked first in Arizona among two-year colleges. An additional pair of Maricopa Community College schools also made the top five. They are Phoenix College and Rio Salado College.
MCC’s first placement did not happen by chance. For several years, faculty and staff at the college have worked diligently to realign online curricula and student support services in accordance with the national Quality Matters standards for course redesign.
ASO uses a variety of criteria for this ranking, including the number of programs and subject areas, student-to-faculty ratio, academic and career counseling services, placement services, tuition, peer-based value and financial aid percentages.
“Arizona is considered leaps and bounds ahead of many other states in distance learning,” ASO said on its website announcing the rankings. “Distance learning in Arizona has some distinct advantages, including the flexibility to study anywhere, as well as taking courses at a university but living across the state from the nearest campus. Arizona has rural corners without access to a college or university campus, and many of the state’s colleges and universities offer online degrees to meet the needs of any student.”
