Staff and interested clients of Cosmos Salon and Day Spa gathered at the salon on Feb. 11 to hear Dr. Marvin S. Hausman reveal recent medical research proving the major benefits of his GROH products, nutricosmetic, mushroom-based food supplements for healthier hair and nails.
Nutricosmetics work from the inside out, as well as topically.
A doctor and surgeon, Dr. Hausman was a researcher at the National Institute of Health and for various pharmaceutical companies. “After my mother died of Alzheimer’s,” he said, “I decided to retire as a physician, and devote my life to research with the hope of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.”
Dr. Hausman answers a basic question, while still maintaining his sense of humor.
“Why do brain cells die?” he queried. “Because protein in the body becomes toxic from free radicals. That’s not a political party,” he joked.
“Antioxidants kill free radicals,” Dr. Hausman stated. “Ergothioneine is one of the most powerful antioxidants, and studies show present levels in the U.S. population today are about half as much as they were in tests done in the 1930s,” he continued.
As with Vitamin D, Dr. Hausman believes everyone also is deficient in ergothioniene, which cannot be produced by the body. It is only available through consuming mushrooms, spirulina, blue-green algae and minor amounts in some vegetables.
The doctor, sometimes referred to as The Mushroom Doctor, explained how researchers at various laboratories, such as Harvard Medical School, currently are conducting experiments with his patented formula Ergo-D2 to discover other possible health applications. He said their findings will be published soon. ErgoD2 is a whole-food supplement developed through Entia Biosciences, Inc., and contains high levels of ergothioneine, Vitamin D2 and other nutrients from a variety of mushrooms.
Dr. Hausman also has formulated other ErgoD2-based food supplement capsules, ImmuSano, GlucoSano, NeuroSano, FlexSano and others, combining it with ingredients focused on particular needs. He said his formulas are made with organic ingredients, contain no chemicals and are vegan.
Although no medical claims are made for the food supplements, many in the audience offered their own experiences to the group, after taking some of the products for several months.
One staff member, who gave her mother GROH for Christmas, said her mother’s eyelashes have grown thicker since then. Another staffer said a tiny bald spot she had was now growing in. A client said her son, with Crohn’s disease, seemed to have more energy, and no more bowel incontinence. Dr. Hausman offered his e-mail address, and asked participants to keep him apprised of their developments. “I’m interested in following up on any results people experience,” he stated. “So, keep in touch with me.”
Sandy and Cosmo Barbetta, owners of the salon, have been trying the supplements since last summer when they first met Dr. Hausman. Sandy, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, said she is now able to bend her fingers more freely. Before, they would cramp up. “Cosmo was taking drugs for diabetes, and after taking GlucoSano for the last few months, his sugar levels have become more normalized, verified by doctor’s tests,” Sandy claimed. “And my brother-in-law, with Alzheimer’s, has improved his level of self-care, and has even started helping fix meals.” According to Sandy, that is why the Barbettas have partnered with Dr. Hausman to offer his supplements at their salon.
