Hi, let me introduce myself. I’m Dr. Star and I am the new addition to Mesa Naturopathic.
Dr. Laura Markison and I met in medical school and have shared the same passion for whole-body wellness over the years, so it was an honor to join her practice. When I entered her medical clinic located in Mesa, I was blown away at how inviting it was to be there. There’s something to be said about a doctor’s office if it feels like a safe place for you. That is something so special Dr. Markison and her staff provide. I am so thrilled to be an advocate for women’s wellness and screenings at Mesa Naturopathic.
Now ladies, let’s have that pep talk or PAP talk as I like to call it. You’ve probably heard that saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of flesh.” It’s simply expressing the importance of early detection and it’s true. When cervical cancer is found early, there is a far greater chance that it can be beaten. The incidence of cervical cancer has declined by 60 percent since the introduction of PAP Smears in the 1950s.
Who is at greater risk for cervical cancer? Women who smoke, have family members who were diagnosed with cervical cancer, if your mother took synthetic estrogen diethylstilbestrol (DES) while pregnant with you, if you are immune compromised, have multiple sexual partners or if you were sexually active at an early age.
Women are such incredible caregivers, that they can often leave their own personal health to the wayside. This is where I come in, to provide quality care and compassion to the lifeline of our neighborhood; our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, colleagues, and women who nurture our community. It is my pleasure to be able to listen to their health journey and empower them because strong women will always help each other out. Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we raise them, and may we be them.
