The Ladies’ Golf Association (LGA) from the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club again pulled off a fabulous shopping spree for Sunshine Acres Children’s Home at Kohl’s department store.
“This year, we had a special angel who donated an extra $25 per shopper,” said event chair Patty Altmaier. The anonymous donor had come forth at the recent LGA luncheon.
The 12th shopping blitz of its kind, this LGA fund drive generated almost $12,000, with $125 available per shopper. Kohl’s provided a special 20 percent discount, and added Kohl’s Cash toward bedding and towels. All funds in excess of the spree went to Sunshine Acres, as well.
Almost instantly, the children from Sunshine Acres were matched up with shopping helpers from the LGA. The 60-minute rush was on.
Bonnie Kirchway chaperoned Nick, an eight-year shopping alum, on a quest for necessary garments. On top of Nick’s list was a pair of Vans shoes.
While Susan Rutherford browsed for comfort gear with Aaryanna, age 7, Jana Maxwell and 10-year-old Drew proudly carried their booty to the checkout. “I believe we shopped together two years ago,” recalled Jana. Drew seemed really happy with his brand name shirts.
Joe Thornton, from Las Sendas, took 13-year-old Stephen on the chase for jeans. Sharon Eivinson helped Justin, age 9, select a watch, while Daynah, age 16, and housemother Amy Forsberg contributed their expertise.
With 12 years experience under her belt, Liz Canale could be considered a pioneer of the spree. She helped 8-year-old Jahmai find outfits.
“I have had a lot of fun over the years,” Liz stated. “I have met such a lovely assortment of kids, different ones every year.” She has previously bonded with children from Sunshine Acres through her volunteer work at Red Mountain Ranch Elementary School.
Cindy Kisshauer and Jessica, 14 years old, made an excellent team. “She is one smart shopper,” Cindy stated about Jessica. “I am proud of her. I am so glad she picked me.” This pair successfully acquired the necessaries, adding just a little bling for the fun of it.
The LGA and all spree helpers had gotten into the holiday spirit with an earlier call for donations. Club newsletters and the box at the pro shop proved instrumental to accomplishing the desired goal.
“Donations just kept pouring in due to the generosity of the Red Mountain Ranch community,” co-chair Judy Thompson said. “We never ever had not enough for the spree. In this economy, it’s quite amazing.”
