If you’re looking for one of the finest golf and dining establishments in the Valley, you don’t have to travel as far north as Scottsdale to find it.
Nestled in Northeast Mesa among the Usery Mountains is the desert oasis known as Las Sendas Golf Club. What was once on the verge of bankruptcy is now gaining Valley recognition for its world-class golf and dining facilities in only its third year under new ownership.
Las Sendas recently completed a $4 million renovation, which included a new pro shop, locker rooms, course facilities and cart paths for the 44,000 rounds of golf they are on track to host this year. Drastically up from 28,000 rounds in previous years, the rise puts Las Sendas on par to be in the top five percent of producing golf courses in Arizona. The club has also attracted several new elite events and tournaments, with the likes of the Phoenix Coyotes, Alice Cooper and the Mesa Chamber of Commerce.
“The new facilities, outstanding service and a great value have really established Las Sendas as one of the most elite courses in the Valley,” shares Lloyd McBean, executive director for Las Sendas. “We’ve also become not just the golf course with a grill, but an East Valley dining destination with three versatile restaurant options.”
The renovation also included the development of three unique eating establishments, including Mesa’s only prime steakhouse, a sports bar and a patio restaurant. Bogey’s Steak and Seafood offers fine dining and even free limo service for Las Sendas residents. The Viewpoint Patio offers live entertainment five nights a week and The Rusty Putter Grille has seven televisions and a great grill menu to satisfy any sports enthusiast. Together, the dining establishments have more than tripled their annual sales from previous ownership years, reaching $1.5 million this year alone.
“It’s non-golfers who make up 75 percent of our food and beverage sales,” said Lloyd. “That really shows that we’ve created a true dining amenity, not only for the Las Sendas community, but for all of Mesa and the Valley.”
Las Sendas has plans to add a separate banquet facility in 2012, designed to seat up to 250 people to host weddings and large corporate events. It’s really about recognizing and fulfilling the needs of the community and the surrounding area, adds Lloyd. “We’ve been able to deliver a world class golf and dining experience and we want to share it with more people.”
The enhancements are also a great value for Las Sendas homeowners. Lloyd shares that more than 40 homes have been sold to new members who wanted to be in the community. “The reputation we have created for Las Sendas really enhances the value of the community overall and gives us a place we can all feel proud and distinguished to live, eat and play in.”
