Sandra Barbetta, co-owner with husband, Cosmo, of Cosmos Salon and Day Spa, is convinced we have enjoyed the Fabulous 40s, accepted the Fantastic 50s, and now it’s time to celebrate the Sensational 60s to 70s.
Sandra is well known around the Valley for her celebrity clients you see every day on local television. So, she has to keep on top of all the latest trends in hairstyle and makeup. “We’re always a season ahead, and that includes trends for all age groups, not just the young,” she claimed.
“Everywhere I go around the East Valley, I observe women, and men, too, of a certain age, who seem stuck in their look,” Sandra said. “They may stay in shape and dress sharp, but they kind of ignore their hair. I can envision how a different hair style, a touch of color or a bit of updated makeup could take 10 years off someone’s appearance.”
Sandra understands how sometimes as we age, we opt for more easy-care hair or maybe even give up trying to look better. “You don’t have to try to look 20,” she said, “but everyone can look their own personal best at whatever age. And it doesn’t have to take a lot of extra time or work.”
Before cutting someone’s hair, height and body type are assessed. “The right hairstyle can give the illusion of cutting off pounds and years, and even change your entire body image,” Sandra stated. “A lot of older women tend to have their cut too short because they think it’s easier. Most often they are surprised to find that a weekly set or a perm can make a longer, more flattering style just as simple, because the unruly gray is controlled. You can even try hair extensions first, to see how you live with a longer style.”
Knowing how to use various pieces of equipment designed for the hair can be very helpful. “Sometimes a client is just unfamiliar with how to use a flat iron to straighten her hair, or a curling iron to add body or lift,” Sandra said. “They’re amazed when we take the time to show them how to turn a simple, good cut into a fabulous look. We’re happy to spend a few minutes teaching them hair and makeup tips that can save them time and effort while improving their appearance,” she continued.
Cosmos also offers a complete makeup makeover for those who want to try something new, but are not sure how to start.
“There also are simple tricks for those who may want to keep their hair gray,” Sandra revealed. “Silver lowlights really make gray hair sparkle. There’s also a camo color series that camouflages gray back to its natural color and perks it up. If you do opt for a complete color change, we also make sure to match the brows and makeup colors,” she further stated. “We do the whole package. And don’t forget the nails. The new Shellac polish is a more natural way to keep your own nails strong and beautiful.”
Cosmos has extended its special $99 anti-aging facial peel offer through February, so you or your honey can have a wonderful uplifting Valentine’s gift. Facials, massages and other spa treatment gift certificates also are available. In addition, you can enjoy a consultation to determine what is best for you.
