It really bothers me when people tell me they’d love to get organized, but they don’t have the time. Really?
You don’t have the time to get organized, but you have time to be disorganized, be late to meetings, waste time looking for things, and time to be frustrated?
Maybe you have the wrong idea what being organized means. Being organized doesn’t mean your spices are alphabetized or nothing is ever on the floor or out of place. Being organized isn’t being perfect.
In my experience, my clients who spend the time to go through their things and get rid of what doesn’t belong in their lives are much happier, more productive, and feel a lot less stressed.
One of the first things I tell them is, “Getting organized will look very disorganized because things will be out of place as we sort through things and peel away the layers.”
In the beginning I don’t know where we are going to put that widget, yet because it takes some time to go through the process and lo and behold, everything starts to make sense. The place to put something becomes obvious once the clutter is removed and space opens up where you need it. If it doesn’t, you haven’t pruned enough.
