The Holiday Boutique at Red Mountain United Methodist Church, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., features handmade crafts suitable for gift giving and home décor for the holidays, as well as useful household items.
The boutique offers unique items ranging from wind chimes designed from tin can lids, to beautifully sewn quilts and wall hangings. Special one-of-a-kind items are offered in a silent auction.
In the spring of 2006, an interest was expressed in helping to present a holiday boutique at the church. Feeling this would be a great way to display the creative talents of the church, reach out to the community, and generate some additional revenue for the newly opened preschool, some members of the congregation got started.
A planning meeting was held, and the Red Mountain Crafters were born. They are now affectionately referred to as The Crafty Ladies. The group meets weekly throughout the year to work on craft projects, as well as plan for the annual November event.
Many men of the church also are involved, helping with setup before and teardown after the event. They also are adept at cutting wood for crafts. In fact, one of the men is an expert quilter. The crafters or members of the congregation donate most materials and supplies. Since the boutique’s inception, the crafters have raised more than $10,000 for the church’s preschool.
The Red Mountain Crafters welcome new participants, and additional information is available at www.RMUMC.com.
To round out the shopping experience, the church’s women’s organization, United Methodist Women, presents its annual Bake and Book Sale. Is there a better way to wind up the day than with a good used book and some oh, so delicious, homemade baked goods?
Red Mountain United Methodist Church is located at 2936 N. Power Road.
