As students at Mesa Public Schools settle into the rhythm of a new and exciting school year, it’s a great time to get involved in helping students succeed.
From classroom helpers, to supply drives and more, the district appreciates the opportunity to engage community members. Here are three ways you can help.
- Become a volunteer
Every day, hundreds of community volunteers actively are helping on school campuses. Volunteers can be found reading to small groups or working one-on-one with students, helping teachers with administrative tasks or shelving books in the library.Becoming a volunteer is simple. Bring a completed volunteer application packet and signed school referral form to the district’s Human Resources Department, or visit the school you would like to help. Learn more and find the form at mpsaz.org/hr.
- Adopt a school
Organizations, such as retirement communities, civic groups and churches, are welcome to adopt a school for campus cleanup, supply drives or other needs. Visit your neighborhood school and talk to the principal about opportunities to get involved. Organizations looking for a school referral may call the district’s Communications and Marketing Department at (480) 472-0223.
- Organize a supply drive
Whether it’s school supplies or personal care items, schools are happy to accept donations from community members. Looking to help a school with a donation but unsure where to begin? Contact your neighborhood school’s office staff or family support specialist for advice or specific needs. Then, rally friends and neighbors to provide donations.
Thinking about attending a school event? Senior community members are eligible to receive a Gold Card and cheer on your favorite student.
Residents who are 62 or older and live within district boundaries are eligible for a free Gold Card, which offers free or discounted admission to school plays, concerts, musical theater performances and sports.
Pick up your Gold Card at the district’s Administrative Services Center, 63 E. Main St., or Curriculum Services Center, 549 N. Stapley Drive. For more information, call (480) 472-0223.
