If you are looking for a Hawaiian luau adventure, don a grass skirt, grab your coconuts and beach comber straw hat, and head to Salt River Tubing’s Hawaiian Mega Hula event, Saturday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Lower Salt River in beautiful Tonto National Forest.
In addition to the free leis, hula gals and limbo music pulsating on the beach, the More Kids in the Woods event will showcase the Salt River Tubing grass-shaking hula line dancers, limbo and hula hoop contests. Invited exhibitors also will be featured, including the College Times Street Team, Nawgan Beverage Co. and Vitamin Water.
Salt River Tubing will award free tube rental passes and limited edition Hawaiian Mega Hula T-shirts for the best Hawaiian tuber costumes. Passes are valid on a return visit. Hawaiian shuttle buses will transport guests to the Lower Salt River for fun in the sun on the mountain stream rocking rapids.
“Our Hawaiian Mega Hula event is the icing on the cake for summertime fun on the Lower Salt River,” said Salt River Tubing’s President and Chief Executive Officer Henri Breault. “September is the perfect month for the Hawaiian More Kids in the Woods event. The event is an attention-grabber for teens and families to encourage them to venture into the great
outdoors,” he continued. “High schools and universities are in full swing, and students need an outdoor break in which to revive and energize. The water flow is usually great, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy a floating picnic on the Lower Salt River.”
The Hawaiian Mega Hula event, co-sponsored by 98 KUPD Radio and Salt River Tubing, is aligned with the USDA Forest Service’s More Kids in the Woods commitment in meeting the challenge of reduced youth involvement in outdoor activities. The program was expressly designed to encourage efforts to get kids and teens outdoors.
