Living in an active community so close to the Tonto Forest lakes and rivers, one might wonder if you can stand up paddle with your pets.
The answer is yes. Getting your furry companion on the board with you is easier than you think. Start with finding a life vest that fits, and consider a handle, so you are able to grab your pooch to help him get back on the board after swimming around.
If you don’t have a life vest for your pet, we rent them here at No Snow Stand Up Paddleboard. You can request one with your rental board.
The next step is to go slow. Take the dog to the water’s edge with the board and just allow him to get familiar with jumping on and off the stand up paddleboard. Once your dog becomes comfortable with the board, it is time to launch.
Kneel down with your dog at first, and paddle gently into the open waters. Take a bag full of treats for praise. Encouragement and rewards can help make your pet’s first time a positive experience.
