My Christmas movie marathon has begun.
There are certain things I love to watch every year, including Elf, Polar Express, Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. In addition, there are TV specials, you know, Rudolph, The Grinch and my favorite, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
I relate to Charlie Brown sometimes, as he tries to rediscover what Christmas is really all about. But that true meaning of Christmas gets lost in the shuffle, in the hustle bustle, and in the desire just for presents he experiences in so many people. They all lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. We can, too.
December itself always is a bit of a marathon here at Hosanna Lutheran Church and Little Palms Preschool, as well. It’s a fun but busy season. And if your life is a little too hectic, running you ragged, or if you find yourself and family losing sight of the real reason for this holiday season, I invite you to come join us at Hosanna Lutheran Church. We have many fun events, which will focus on the real meaning of Christmas.
December includes the regular Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. each week, with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. The Christmas Cantata will be held on Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. and on Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. It is an awesome musical presentation of the Christmas message. Mid-week Advent services are offered at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays leading up to Christmas.
We’ll enjoy the Cookie Shoppe on Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Christmas Eve children and family service is on Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. and the Candle Light service is at 8 p.m. that evening. On Christmas morning, we celebrate the birth of Jesus at 9 a.m.
Back in the Charlie Brown Christmas special, Linus finally gets it right. He picks up the story in Luke 2, “And there were shepherds in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by night when behold, an angel appeared to them and they were terrified. But the angel said unto them, “Behold, do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the world. Tonight in the city of David a Savior has been born to you, and he is Christ the Lord.” That’s what Christmas is really all about, Charlie Brown. Come to Hosanna and we will focus on this great gift together.
