In the spirit of reaching out to the community and welcoming everyone, Red Mountain United Methodist Church invites neighbors and friends to its annual BBQ and Music Festival on Sunday, Feb. 28, from noon to 2 p.m.
The event, free to all guests of the church, will feature a variety of music offerings, activities for all ages and a delicious BBQ lunch.
The picnic-style lunch will include Waldo’s BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, coleslaw, cowboy beans, potato chips, beverages and dessert.
JR McAlexander, organist and keyboardist at the church, and his production company, Showtune Productions, will present New York performers Mike and Jillian Zygo in You’ve Got a Friend, a tribute to the hit songs of Carole King and James Taylor. They will be featured, along with a live band, in the big tent behind the church.
Mike Zygo was last seen on Broadway in the original company of Once, winner of eight Tony awards. He starred in the first national tour of Rock of Ages, and appeared in the film version of the show. Jillian Zygo starred in The Wedding Singer national tour, and appeared regionally as Fanny Brice, in Funny Girl, which won the Arizoni Award. She is the founder of the Broadway Child Guardian Union, mentoring young performers in such Broadway shows as Once, Annie and Les Miserables. Other music offerings will be featured throughout the church campus.
There will be many other activities for kids of all ages, including a petting zoo, face painting, games, bounce houses, a sports interactive inflatable and a rock climbing wall.
