Desert Rose Preschool at Las Sendas has finished another year with a special week of fun and surprises.
Fun Days
On Monday, the children came to class wearing their pajamas, and they brought their stuffed animals. Tuesday was Backward Day. The students wore their clothes backward and wore hats. On Wednesday, it was Crazy Hair Day. There were some wild and colorful hairdos. The children also were surprised by a visit from Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Thursday was Beach Day. The students wore their beach attire, and they had a great time playing volleyball in our classroom.
Graduation Day
On Friday, the day of our big graduation ceremony, 14 children graduated from preschool. They proudly came in wearing caps and walking to excerpts from the graduation march Pomp and Circumstance. All the children sang songs and recited poems in front of their parents and guests. The pre-k class received their diplomas, and the 3- and 4-year-olds received certificates of completion.
The room was like a pressroom, with lots of cameras going off and recorders capturing the moment. It was both a happy and sad occasion. Parents had tears rolling down their faces, and some of the children were not happy. They did not want to leave their happy surroundings and their good friends.
Personally, I had mixed emotions. Some of the graduates were siblings of past students. So, I had the privilege of seeing them grow before my eyes. I will miss them, but I know they will do great in kindergarten. All my students have a special place in my heart. I have seen them fill out, grow taller and develop into so much more mature and responsible individuals. It has been a privilege to be their teacher, and my honor to watch their personalities transform as they become successful in their learning. We became close and shared many laughs. We played many games, and we had lots of fun adventures. I will miss them all, but I know they are going on to kindergarten fully prepared.
Most of the children are coming back next year. They will move up to the 4-year-old class and the pre-k class. This is my 25th year of teaching, and still each year goes by so fast. It is hard for me to think how many students I have had. I have seen so many children grow up and become such great adults. So, please do not lose contact with me. I still want to know and see all my past Desert Rose graduates. I will never stop being their teacher.
We finished the special day with a pizza party for everyone to enjoy and a big cake for our sweet tooth. It truly was a perfect way to finish the year.
Anniversary Year
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of Desert Rose Preschool at Las Sendas. We will be having a big reunion with all the past students who have attended Desert Rose. I am planning a big party for everyone to come back. I look forward to reuniting with all my students. It will take some time to gather all the information and organize the event. I will send out invitations. So, I need either your mailing address or your e-mail address—even if you attended Desert Rose only for a short time. Send the information to jbuttitta@cox.net.
Thank you to all the parents for having such great children and entrusting them to me this year. Thank you for your support and always being there for your children. This is why they are all so very special. Thank you for your help and kind words.
