With summer camp in session, lots of new students and returning students are having a great time being together while learning and making new friends.
Summer Fun
Starting the summer session with Flag Day, children made flags by adding their own stripes and stars. We talked about who made the first flag and why we have stars and stripes. All the children went home with their own flags.
We made special Father’s Day gifts and cards. The children also had fun making lots of coloring pages to let our dads know how much we love and appreciate all they do.
This year, our session is more like a summer camp. Children will make lots of art projects and learn new games.
We will review some school subjects to make sure the children do not forget what they learned last year. These reviews will be conducted according to age groups. Individual help and supervision will be included with the review process.
We will learn about the beach, bugs and the solar system, plus lots of new things. We will go to the park and play. The children will play some group games and take part in some discovery of the outdoors. They simply will have lots of fun!
Read Throughout the Day
Read a variety of things to your child. Such items can include the comics, stories, a letter, a birthday card and cereal boxes, as well as billboards and road signs, etc. Set an example for your child by demonstrating what an important part reading plays in your life.
By reading to your child, you will help her develop an interest in reading and in books. To further this interest, let your child read to you. Ask her to read a favorite story.
Silly Putty Faces
Get the laughs rolling with a zany face! Count how many silly faces you and your children can make. Or have someone call out, Face freeze! See who can hold a funny face the longest—without laughing.
Unplugged!
Turn off the TV, and turn on some old-fashioned fun. Start by thinking of activities not needing electricity. Then, play games, such as checkers, other board games and puzzles. You can even make things together.
Fall Session
The fall classes will start on Aug. 22. If you have already registered, you will receive a phone call and a postcard to let you know the time and days your child will be attending. If you have not yet registered, please do so by filling out a registration form at the Trailhead Members Club front office. Please include the $25 registration fee.
If you have not heard from me by August, please call me. Last year, we had lots of parents wanting more hours. So, I will once again offer all day sessions five days a week or whatever your needs might be. Last year, I tried to accommodate the needs of the students and parents. So, if you have a special need, please let me know, and we will work it out. As a teacher, I am very flexible.
Remember, Desert Rose Preschool at Las Sendas is not a day care, but a private educational preschool.
