The smell of crisp fall air brings back so many fond memories of childhood growing up in New England. The wonders and beauty of the changing foliage and the great flavors of the fall harvest are two of my favorites. Freshly picked apples, pumpkin pie, butternut squash, and apple fritters just makes my mouth water thinking about it.
I reached out to my mother today to ask for my grandmother’s apple fritter recipe that has been handed down through our family for many years. I didn’t tell her why I needed it, so if you see my mother, don’t let her know I shared our family secret recipe.
We have a great fall season to look forward to. I hope you enjoy the fritters as much as I do.
Apple Fritters
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Lemon Juice
- 3 – 4 Apples, Peeled & Diced
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1/4 Cup Milk
- Oil for frying
Glaze
- 1 Cup Confectioners’ Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Water
Whisk dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, add lemon juice and apples. Add sugar and eggs together in stand mixer with paddle attachment. Fold in dry ingredients. Add milk and stir, fold in apples.
Fill frying pan with oil and heat to 375 degrees. Drop batter into oil 1/4 cup at a time. Flip and fry other side. You will know they are done by inserting a small knife into the center and it comes out clean. Use slotted spoon to remove. Let cool and top with glaze.
