The Las Sendas Quilt Club is proud to host its 12th annual quilt show, on March 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Las Sendas Trailhead Members Club.
The quilt show highlights both personal and charitable projects. Approximately 120 projects will be on display. Club members are delighted to share their craftsmanship and artistic vision in a variety of venues, including traditional and historic quilts, beading, paper piecing, purses and bags, as well as landscapes and scrappy quilts.
The primary feature of this year’s show is an exciting and heartwarming display of children’s quilts and pillowcases, which are primarily charitable projects.
The 35 quilters in this club have multiple interests and talents, which include designing patterns, teaching specific skills and techniques at local quilt shops, and in organizing charitable donations of blankets.
In the past year, the Las Sendas quilters donated blankets and pillowcases to local nonprofit charities. Sojourner Center (shelter for abused women and children), Helen’s Hope Chest (benefiting foster children), House of Refuge (transitional housing for homeless families), the American Cancer Society and the Children’s Crisis Center received donations. In December, members gave pillowcases, pillows and 18 quilts to Ryan House (provides pediatric palliative care at no cost to families).
Quilt show attendees will admire the beauty and artistic designs of these prolific quilters while enjoying complimentary refreshments. In addition to the distinctive quilts and numerous charity projects, members of the Las Sendas Quilt Club will be present and pleased to answer any questions, and may be amenable to sales of either quilts or purses.
A donation of one dollar is suggested to attend the quilt show. Proceeds will be donated to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.
The Las Sendas Quilt Club meets on the third Monday of every month, and also schedules a monthly open sewing day in which members share tips, tricks and friendly advice. These meetings provide opportunities to learn, to share and to focus on charitable projects.
