Alta Mesa Golf Club’s Charity Committee isn’t letting summer’s higher temperatures slow down its community charitable efforts.
Collection of used cell phones for the Cell Phones for Soldiers program continues throughout the year. Each donated cell phone will be exchanged for a $100 calling card to be used by active duty U.S. soldiers stationed around the world. No accessories are necessary, just the phone. A basket is located in the Alta Mesa Golf Clubhouse lobby.
The committee’s food drive also continues all year long, and the need is great. United Food Bank continuously runs short of particular canned and prepackaged items, including oatmeal, enriched pasta, chicken, tuna, chili con carne, beef stew, apricots, peaches, peas and asparagus. There also is a need for kidney beans, black-eyed peas, pinto beans and refried beans. In addition, United Food Bank appreciates peanut butter and tomatoes, prunes, nuts, granola bars, nutrition bars and juice boxes.
Club members, as well as the local community, are invited to participate by dropping off a phone and/or food items. So, next time you are in the area, stop by the clubhouse, and participate in these great programs. The donation barrel and phone basket are conveniently located just inside the lobby door.
