RainShadow is a courageous new fairy tale that has an empowering female protagonist, Rain, who encounters drama, love, and adventure. It is a story about a jungle princess that, when happy, creates ample amount of rain for the rainforest. However, when the jungle princess Rain is sad, it becomes too sunny and creates a drought. Unfortunately, her protector Shadow gets captured and causes Rain to become distraught making the whole jungle search for Shadow.
Candice was raised in the Pacific Northwest for a good portion of her life. It rains a lot around Seattle and the Hoh Rainforest, but she learned that rain was essential for life. The concept of rain being a good thing became a focal point in RainShadow.
Another interesting fact is that rain shadows are where the mountains block the rain clouds from going over, so the other side of the mountain is dry and barren. In the story, the character ends up on the other side of the mountainous jungle in the desert trying to find her protector Shadow.
Candice visited Arizona a lot growing up and currently resides here. Arizona’s landscape and environment played a big role in creating a depiction of a desert.
RainShadow can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or austinmcauley.com/us/book/rainshadow. For information about the book, go to the writer and artist’s personal website at candicegartzke.com.
