There are several Medicare Enrollment Periods. For those about to enroll in Medicare, or those already enrolled, now is a good time to review.
Initial Enrollment Period is for those newly eligible for Medicare because you turn 65, or those who have a disability and are under 65. For those turning 65, you have a seven-month period (three months before 65, the month you turn 65 and three months after) in which to enroll in Medicare, and choose either a Supplement plan and a Drug plan, or enroll in an Advantage plan that includes prescription coverage.
The Special Enrollment Period happens when you have certain events in your life, such as moving out of state, losing employee coverage or other credible coverage, or you are diagnosed with certain illnesses.
The main enrollment period is called Medicare Annual Enrollment Period and it is every year from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. This is the time where you can pick a new Advantage plan, change from a Medicare Supplement to an Advantage plan, or change your drug coverage (Part D plan). It is important to understand that you have many options, and during the Annual Enrollment Period, you are able to look at your options and make changes that could benefit you.
As an Independent Medicare Agent, I attend trainings and plan information meetings in order to offer people the best possible choice. I believe, wholeheartedly, that everyone should have knowledge about what is available in order to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
This year, I will be hosting two informal meetings at the Red Mountain Ranch Country Clubhouse. Please join me on Monday, Oct. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m., or Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m.
I can check your prescription drug coverage as well as share information about new plans available for 2020. Enjoy coffee and hot cocoa in an informal setting. If you are turning 65 next year, this would also be a great time to get acquainted with Medicare. Of course, you are always welcome to call and make an in-home appointment.
