New Frontiers for Lifelong Learning (NFLL), a peer-led, self-directed organization of more than 400 members, operating under the sponsorship of Mesa Community College (MCC), may be just what you are seeking.
Educational and social opportunities happen by joining interactive groups, such as America, the Gilded Age, Walking the Cather Trail, Continuing Piano Class, We Were Citizens—Now We’re Not, Theory of Evolution and Trailblazer’s Hiking, as well as more topics. Many classes meet one time for two and one-half to three hours. There are no tests, grades or credits.
Other social opportunities, such as luncheons, tours, traveling, concerts, board and card games and theater productions, can be enjoyed. Volunteer opportunities on the MCC campus and in the community are available. As an NFLL member, you are given an MCC student ID card, which gives you discounts on campus and in the community.
An open house for learning about NFLL will take place on Friday, Sept. 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the MCC Downtown Center, 145 N. Centennial Way, on the fourth floor. Parking is available in the parking garage, on the second and third levels only. An elevator or stairway leads to the fourth floor from the garage.
Classes meet at MCC campuses located at Southern Avenue and Dobson Road, McKellips and Power roads, Mesa Active Adult Centers, at 247 N. MacDonald St. and 7550 E. Adobe St., as well as other locations.
Fees are $80 a year or $60 for each semester. After enrolling at the open house, a member can register for as many classes as one’s schedule will allow. Online registration begins on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Arrangements will be made for those without computers.
