Finding the perfect gift for Mother’s Day is no easy task for anyone, but at the southwest corner of Power and Brown roads, Piefection may have a solution.
“Our Mother’s Day Essay Contest is one of our favorite, and most exciting events of the year,” said bakery owner Cheryl Standage. “Giving away a year of free pie is great fun, but it’s reading the essays that we love the most.”
Every year, Piefection reviews essay entries and judges them with a panel of what they call perfect mothers and pie makers. The winner is chosen, and receives a free pie every month for the following year. “We see amazing stories about incredible women. It’s incredibly sweet,” stated Cheryl.
So, how does one pick a winning entry? “We always like to say everyone wins, because whether or not they take home the prize, they each have an essay to give to their mom, which tells her why she is so amazing,” Cheryl stated. “What mom wouldn’t want that for Mother’s Day? The pie is just a delicious bonus for one lucky mom.”
So, how do you enter? Simply submit your essay, of any length, stating why your mom is so extraordinary, to piefectionaz@gmail.com, and type Mother’s Day Contest in the subject line. Include your phone number, and wait to be notified of the winner before the big day.
The deadline for entries is May 3, and the winner will be announced on May 6.
If you don’t have a chance to write an essay, you may just want to stop by the bakery for a piña colada pie, the pie of the month. A classic flaky crust is filled with rum-flavored pastry cream, juicy pineapple and coconut, and topped with real whipped cream. “It tastes like a vacation to the tropics,” Cheryl stated. “That’s a gift everyone can appreciate.”
