Many exciting events are happening at Self Development Charter School (SDCS).
Recently, Self Development received the 2010 Charter School of the Year award from the Arizona Charter Schools Association. This year, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. Additionally, we are pleased to announce we are expanding our facility to add two more classrooms and a science and technology center.
The new science and technology center at SDCS aligns an inquiry-based approach with educational research. The students will use hands-on experience to incorporate meta-cognitive learning, including predicting, observing, inferring, analyzing and reporting data.
In addition, the students will perform experiments in the fields of chemistry, biology and physics to enhance the understanding of the subject matter taught in classes. The students also will be introduced to the careers in science and technology by participating in programs with exposure in the fields of architecture, drafting, engineering, robotics and digital video.
Our unique technology-based curriculum provides opportunities for excelling students to undertake an accelerated path when they enter high school, as well as earn college scholarships and compete successfully for entrance to highly ranked colleges. Excelling students completing our Middle School Program also may have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement exams in biology, Latin and Spanish.
Our technology center will provide opportunities for students to experience blended learning. Blended learning incorporates in-class lectures with online and distance learning. Our current Latin classes use blended learning.
Students at SDCS experience high quality learning in a school culture, which minimizes social pressure often associated with middle school years. The school’s philosophy maximizes each student’s potential. By introducing the subject matter in the field of science and technology, students feel they have the capability to excel.
Our curriculum enhances development of sound fundamentals, increases curiosity, and makes the students want to conduct research and explore new ideas. This level of knowledge will result in critical thinking and the learning skills necessary to succeed in college.
You can be assured of our faculty’s dedication to the student’s best interest. The school’s principal and faculty take personal interest in each student’s development performance and progress. Our students have a can-do attitude, and they are eager to learn more.
