I was speaking with a client last week who lamented about the difficulties of Medicare. He had delayed his Part B because he was still working and had employee medical coverage. Also, he chose not to take Social Security yet.
All of these choices are right for him but do present some hoops to jump through when changing over to Medicare.
Without going into specific detail, there are steps that need to be taken prior to signing up for Medicare Part B and it is always helpful to have a guide. Of course, I would love to help you through this process, but I also thought it would be helpful to put a plug in for the SHIP program.
SHIP stands for State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Their motto is, “Trusted, unbiased, one-on-one counseling and assistance” for Medicare help. If you have questions or a complicated situation about retirement and Medicare, this is a wonderful, no-hassle program that can help. The website is shiphelp.org and their phone number is (800) 432-4040. I have called them several times to get answers to difficult questions and scenarios.
My client was so pleased with the information he received from the counselor. He felt confident moving forward with his Medicare plan.
As always, please call me to make an appointment if you are about to enter the Medicare world or have questions about your situation. I would love to be your guide.
